Finally, I was able to create a prototype mailer using Ubuntu and Postfix. The mailer will be used to send server status reports.
I've been working on this project since last year and I thought, maybe DilNET is blocking the ports that I need. After our Bayantel line was installed, Postfix can now deliver messages.
Here are the guides that I used to successfully create a simple postfix mailer.
The Prancing Tarantula - Guide to Getting Postfix to work on Ubuntu with Gmail by Mattox Beckman
His step-by-step instruction was clear and direct. If you just need to send a few automated emails using Gmail, this is a must-read.
Soup to Nuts - Gmail on Home Linux box using Postfix and Fetchmail by Mike Chirico
This is a more comprehensive guide for setting up a full blown mail server.
With these two guides, making your first email server will be a lot easier. Thanks Mattox and Mike!
